Heave compensation in six degrees of freedom

In offshore applications, it is often necessary to decouple the positions of certain objects or loads from the ship motions caused by waves.

The system shown here allows heave to be compensated in six independent degrees of freedom (three translations and three rotations). An additional winch drive is used to position the load and for alternative energy-saving compensation of purely lifting motions.

This project particularly focused on the dynamic positioning accuracy under various heave conditions and the implementation of energy-saving drive strategies.
